Courageous youngster
Brave schoolgirl Gemma Flowers won the Community Star award for courageous youngster last year.
Aged 11, Gemma was diagnosed with leukaemia and within the space of a few months she had undergone 10 operations, 160 injections, 43 nights in hospital, 11 transfusions and three gruelling weeks of chemotherapy.
Gemma, of Berriedale Drive, Sompting, received countless votes and took to the stage with her mum Gill to accept her award at the ceremony last November.

"When she found out that she was nominated for the courageous youngster award she was over the moon, and then when she won it, well it was just incredible and we will never forget that night," Gill said.
"The awards were a massive boost for Gemma at a time when her life was turned upside down. It was such a lovely thing to happen."
Award categories
There are 17 award categories this year, with the addition of outstanding bravery.

Last year, the Herald and Gazette offices were inundated with more than 300 nominations and almost 10,000 votes and we expect this year to be no different.
All nominees will be featured in a supplement in October and then readers will have the chance to get voting for their favourites.
The winners will be unveiled at a glitzy awards ceremony in November.
