At its height, seven fire engines were tackling the blaze in the roof and first floor of a house on the A259 Fishmarket Road at around 3.35pm, with the operation only scaled down until 9.25pm.
After the affected properties were re-inspected this morning (Thursday, July 21), an East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said it is believed an electrical fault caused the fire.

“While there were no injuries due to the fire, we are aware that a member of the public tripped at the scene.”
During the incident, firefighters from Rye, Broad Oak, The Ridge and Bohemia Road in Hastings, Battle and Lydd, Kent, were called to the scene. An Incident Control Unit from Bexhill was also dispatched.
The fire spread to adjourning properties and at 7.15pm, crews reported the fire was surrounded.
The building was left secure overnight.
