Tony Morris says (‘County council vote to uphold fire cuts on ‘shameful day’’, WSCT, Oct 23): “Friday 17th October 2014 will be remembered as the darkest and most shameful day in West Sussex County Council’s history.”

And what will be remembered as the day - 15 years ago in 1999 - which must rate as a very close second?

The day County Hall’s political elite made the monstrous decision to axe hot school meals to 64,000 primary-aged children, dismantle 240 school kitchens, and make 550 dinner-ladies redundant - ‘to save money’.
