A map helpedguide people around the 18 scarecrows, as well as an Instagram page. First place went to ‘The Last Spire - A tribute to Peter Harknett, steeplejack’ built by The Cooper family. A recreation of the recent work done on St Giles steeple by Peter Harknett who retired after he finished work on it. Kay MacNaughton, co-chair of the PTA, said: “On behalf of the Friends of St Giles (PTA) we’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who took part in the competition. “As usual, the standard of the entries was incredible. “The secret judges had a difficult job deciding who should win the trophy and top prize, with rosettes to sixth place and generous voucher prizes donated by Wolfox and The Entertainer in Haywards Heath. “There was a great turnout of scarecrows built by residents and placed in their gardens for the entertainment of all the villagers. “Not only did the competition raise much needed funds for the school, but it provided some light entertainment in what has been a difficult year. “A massive thank you to Haywards Heath Landscapes Ltd. for sponsoring the event and to Wolfox and The Entertainer for their generous prizes.”
