GOLDS LEVEL DERBY LATE

A HOTLY disputed penalty three minutes from time, coolly converted by Littlehampton skipper Gary Young, brought the curtain down on a pulsating and fiery encounter on Saturday.

In a game at boiling point for the full 90 minutes, United felt thoroughly aggrieved when their first-half penalty claims were turned down. Referee Lloyd Rendell wrongly decided Mark McCullum's ill-advised hack at United forward Dave Schneider was outside the box. On such decisions games can be won and lost and this one certainly went against United.

No quarter was asked or given but Littlehampton began to exert their authority from the top end of the table and they drew first blood. From Grant Vanson's right-wing cross, diminutive veteran Paul Williams' headed knockdown found Clinton More whose drive was parried by keeper Dean Fuller only for Mark Windsor to smash home the rebound.
