The course stages a race meeting hours after Prince William and Kate Middleton tie the knot on Friday, April 29. Staff are turning the evening meeting – already one of their most popular fixtures of the year – into a celebration of the big occasion which will see the whole country partying. General manager Phil Bell said: “There are six races, a Take That and Robbie tribute band after racing, fireworks off the roof of the Premier Grandstand, fairground side shows and a real street party atmosphere.” Officials are hoping to attract one or two horses with royal links in their name – perhaps even Findon trainer Nick Gifford’s runner Royal Wedding. Gates open at 3pm, the first race is at 5.40pm, and the band is on stage around 8.20pm. There’s a special admission package for £22 which includes a ticket, two drinks and £10 worth of Tote discount betting vouchers. This must be pre-booked, either online at www.fontwellpark.co.uk or by calling 01243 543335. Hospitality starts from £39. This week has been Cheltenham preview week at Fontwell. The track has held two events at which punters have been able to hear industry experts give some tips for next week’s big meeting.
