Terry-Brand in Dreamland as he lifts Scottish Open title

Earlier in May, Terry-Brand’s good friends and rivals, Rob Haines and Mark Pope, crossed the border to the Lochgelly Raceway near Dunfermline, and saw Haines return Rookie Banger Scottish Champion.

This though was the National Bangers, a step up again competing with the cream of the UK’s Banger racers. More normally seen in a Honda Civic, this contest was strictly for Micros, cars of a certain diminutive size such as Ford KAs and Nissan Micras.

Buoyed also, by Ed Kennett winning the National Micro Banger World Cup, in total, six drivers from The Dreamers team in Sussex, made the long trek to Scotland.

Led by Team Captain Steve ‘Cecil’ Anscombe, The Dreamers team also included, current London Champion Reece ‘Hobbit’ Priestley, Jack ‘Jacko’ Brann, Pete ‘Bodja’ Osborne, Terry ‘Ginger’ Boxall and of course former Arlington Champion Darren ‘The Cheat’ Terry-Brand.

With so many cars on the grid, having a full supporting team as well as their trusted mechanics had the potential to give the invaders an advantage.

Recent team meetings in this sport have shown that unless the team is united and organised, they won’t win anything. In experienced driver Anscombe, The Dreamers don’t suffer the problem of egos and individual considerations.

With a well drilled plan of attack, the convoy of trucks and cars left Sussex under the cover of darkness, at some unearthly hour.

Arriving after their mammoth motorway trip, they were given a warm welcome by the locals who appreciated the effort of travelling so far, in such numbers.

From there the hospitality was put to one side, with focus purely on the championship race, which was the first of the meeting.

What followed was a masterclass in team racing. As the wreckers blocked and eased the path, the recognised racers made their way through the carnage of micros.
